Speaker: Parliamentary visits key to strengthening Azerbaijan-Russia relations
The visit of the Russian Federation delegation will serve as a significant boost to Azerbaijani-Russian relations, according to Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova.
At the 22nd meeting of the Commission on Interparliamentary Cooperation between the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, held in Baku, Gafarova spoke about the positive impact of the meeting, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“We discussed the prospects for cooperation on a wide range of pressing issues. A constructive and fruitful dialogue is being conducted between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Russia. Mutual visits of parliamentary delegations contribute to the development of friendly relations between our peoples,” Gafarova stated, highlighting the effectiveness of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
She also stressed the importance of these meetings in deepening bilateral ties, adding, “The Inter-Parliamentary Commission is a real and effective mechanism for regulating the ties between our countries.”
The Speaker mentioned that the meeting would cover various topics, including inter-regional cooperation, climate change, and environmental protection.
Furthermore, she emphasized that the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Russia is aligned with the interests of both nations' peoples.
In her remarks, Chairman of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, underscored the historical foundations of the relationship between the two countries.
“At the origins of our relations stood Heydar Aliyev, the great leader and national leader of Azerbaijan. He asserted that the world lives and develops through creation. It is in the key of creation and mutual trust that ties between Russia and Azerbaijan are built,” Matviyenko said during the opening ceremony of the 22nd session of the Commission on Interparliamentary Cooperation.
Matviyenko also acknowledged the critical role of inter-parliamentary dialogue in strengthening cooperation.
“A direct dialogue has been established between our parliaments, and a roadmap of joint activities has been developed. The fact that the delegation includes both deputies of the Milli Majlis and deputies from Russia speaks about the level of our cooperation and allied relations,” she stated.
She also took the opportunity to express gratitude to Azerbaijan for its support of the Russian language.
“I would like to express my special gratitude to Mehriban Aliyeva for her actions to support the Russian language,” Matviyenko added.
It is worth noting that the Russian delegation, led by Valentina Matviyenko, arrived in Baku on March 16. During their visit, Matviyenko held productive meetings with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, and visited the Alley of Honor.
