Tbilisi mayor: Time to bow to foreign powers is over
The mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, has said that Georgia will no longer accept external interference in its political affairs, amid escalating tensions with European Union officials.
Speaking to local media, Kaladze argued that the Georgian people alone determine who governs the country and how it is run, rejecting what he described as pressure from abroad, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“The time when we had to bow to anyone is over,” he said. “The people of Georgia decide who should be in power and how to manage their country, not anyone from outside.”
He also criticised statements made by EU representatives, claiming they were based on falsehoods and were undermining relations between Tbilisi and Brussels.
Kaladze further accused what he termed the “European bureaucracy” of acting against the Georgian state, while stressing that the government remained open to dialogue on selected issues.
“At any time, we are ready for dialogue on certain matters, but threats are unacceptable,” he added.
