Tbilisi mayor warns opposition against illegal protests Ahead of local elections
Tbilisi Mayor and Secretary-General of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party, Kakha Kaladze, has dismissed opposition claims of a planned revolution on October 4, the day of local government elections.
Opposition figures, including former United National Movement party chairman Levan Khabeishvili, opera singer Paata Burchuladze, and others, have previously called for citizens to join a protest outside the Georgian Parliament in Tbilisi, aiming to “peacefully overthrow the government” on election day, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
Kaladze told journalists: “Nothing will happen. Khabeishvili is not a serious figure, and his statements are unimportant. They invent new nonsense just to support their own followers. There will be no revolution or confrontation.”
He also issued a warning to opposition members to remain within the law. “If anyone commits any illegal act, there will be a strong reaction. Let them try and break the law, if they dare,” he added.
