Three killed in small plane crash in rural Michigan town
A small aircraft crashed in Bath Township, Michigan, in the evening of October 16, killing all three people on board, local officials confirmed.
The tragic incident occurred around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Clark Road and Peacock Road, in a quiet community with a population of just 2,841, according to 2020 Census data, New York Post reports.
Town supervisors issued a statement shortly after the crash, confirming that all three occupants of the aircraft were located and pronounced dead at the scene. The victims have not yet been publicly identified.
Photographs released by local media outlets show thick black smoke and intense flames rising from a densely wooded crash site. The wreckage has prompted a significant emergency response effort, with the area around the crash sealed off.
“Please avoid the area of Peacock and Clark Rd. It will be shut down while emergency responders are working an active situation,” read a public alert posted by Lansing Area Emergency Notifications on Facebook.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash. A crew from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is on site and will assist in the investigation into what led to the fatal incident. The FAA has not yet issued a public comment.
