Top cleric: Azerbaijan-US religious ties strengthen mutual interests

04 October 2025 18:20

Friendship and cooperation between religious denominations in the United States and Azerbaijan, including mutual visits, joint events, and collaborative projects, hold spiritual significance and serve the interests of both peoples, said Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO).

He made the remarks during a meeting with the leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the United States, according to local media.

Highlighting the dynamically developing relations between the US and Azerbaijan, Pashazadeh praised the role of both countries’ presidents in advancing this progress.

“The efforts of the United States to achieve peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan are highly commendable. The Washington Summit held on August 8 was the result of these valuable efforts and U.S. President Donald Trump's personal support for the peace process,” he said.

Pashazadeh also expressed gratitude for the significant material and moral assistance provided by the Stirling Foundation in humanitarian demining operations in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.

During the meeting, Pashazadeh invited Dallin Oakes, First Counsellor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, to visit Azerbaijan. Oakes accepted the invitation with appreciation.

The meeting was also attended by Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Centre for Multiculturalism, and MP Javanshir Pashazade.
