TotalEnergies sees potential for satellite-based emissions monitoring in Azerbaijan
Advanced emissions monitoring technologies, including satellite imagery and ground-based sensors, could help Azerbaijan strengthen efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its oil and gas sector, a representative of TotalEnergies said at the 31st Baku Energy Forum.
Speaking at the event, Chingiz Orujov, a representative of TotalEnergies, highlighted the company's experience using digital technologies to track emissions across its global operations, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to Orujov, TotalEnergies deploys satellite imagery alongside sensors installed at production facilities to monitor emissions and detect leaks in real time.
“These technologies allow for the rapid detection of emissions and leaks. A monitoring system using satellite data, sensors, and other digital solutions can also be applied in Azerbaijan. Such technologies help to more effectively plan and implement measures to reduce emissions,” Orujov said.
