Traffic and travel tips for passengers heading to Baku Airport during COP29
In light of the upcoming COP29 conference, which is expected to bring a surge of visitors to the capital, authorities have announced several measures to ensure smooth transportation to and from Heydar Aliyev International Airport amidst anticipated traffic restrictions on the city’s main streets.
Passengers travelling to the airport from Baku’s city centre are advised to take the Zigh Highway as an alternative route, helping them bypass congestion caused by the event. Those coming from Bilgah and Mashtaga can use the route through Mardakan and Shuvelan, which connects directly to the Zigh Highway, Caliber.Az reports.
To provide added convenience, express bus services H1 and H2 will be operating throughout the duration of COP29. The H1 bus departs every 10 minutes from the “28 May” metro station, while the H2 bus departs every 15 minutes from the “Ahmadli” metro station. These buses will offer a free ride to the airport until November 14, ensuring that attendees of COP29 can travel comfortably and on time.
In light of the expected traffic disruptions, airport authorities recommend that all passengers arrive at least 3 hours prior to their flight to avoid any last-minute delays. Additionally, there are important updates regarding parking facilities. The parking area in front of the airport will be reserved for special-purpose vehicles during COP29, meaning private car parking will not be allowed. Only drop-offs and pick-ups will be permitted in this area.
Furthermore, only passengers with valid tickets will be allowed entry to Terminals 1 and 2, and those accompanying them are kindly asked to refrain from entering the airport premises during this period.
Passengers are urged to plan their trips ahead of time and take full advantage of the available public transportation options to ensure a smooth and timely arrival at the airport.
