Tragedy in Azerbaijan’s Tartar: Entire family dies from carbon monoxide poisoning
A devastating incident has claimed the lives of four members of a single family in the Sarov settlement, Azerbaijan's Tartar district, reportedly due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
The tragic event occurred in a residential area constructed for former internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Kalbajar district, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The victims have been identified as Rufat Mais Taghizada, his wife Afsana Fagan Taghiyeva, and their two children, Umid Rufat Taghizada and Suraya Rufat Taghizada. The entire family were natives of Kalbajar, one of the regions heavily affected by past conflict.
Initial findings suggest that the family was overcome by carbon monoxide gas, a deadly, odorless, and colorless substance that can accumulate quickly in enclosed spaces, especially in the presence of faulty heating systems or poor ventilation. The precise cause and source of the gas leak are still under investigation.
Local law enforcement authorities and emergency response teams have cordoned off the area and are conducting a thorough examination of the scene to determine the exact circumstances leading to the fatal exposure. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of a malfunctioning heating appliance or chimney obstruction, which are common causes of carbon monoxide buildup during colder months.
