Trump calls for $350 billion in defence funding
U.S. President Donald Trump has called on congressional leaders to make the passage of a new defence funding package a top priority when lawmakers return to Washington.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the U.S. military was stronger than ever and urged Congress to approve "Reconciliation 3.0," which he said would allocate $350 billion for defence, along with the proposed "SAVE AMERICA ACT," Caliber.Az reports.
Trump argued that the U.S. military's capabilities and recruitment levels were at record highs.
"The United States Military has never been stronger, or more powerful. No other Nation can do what we do [It’s not even close!]. This year we set even more Historic Recruiting Records, months ahead of schedule. Morale has never been higher."
He said Congress should prioritise advancing the legislation once it reconvenes.
Trump wrote that House and Senate leaders should make the package "their Number One Priority" and ensure that the proposed $350 billion in defence funding moves quickly through the budget process.
He also argued that pairing the SAVE AMERICA ACT with full funding for what he referred to as the "Department of War" would help maintain U.S. security.
"The SAVE AMERICA ACT, which everyone is asking for, paired with the full funding of our Great Department of War, can be passed very quickly, ensuring that the United States of America stays FREE for Generations to come."
