Trump urges US to rekindle relations with Russia and China
The U.S. must continue cooperating with Russia and China, according to U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, during a speech to supporters in Flint, Michigan.
Trump highlighted that doing business with China could be beneficial, but only if the terms are fair, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"Russia has so many minerals... We can do great business, and everyone will be happy," he stated.
On September 15, Trump addressed the Yalta European Strategy forum via video message, outlining two key elements for resolving the Ukrainian crisis. He emphasized the importance of achieving a ceasefire through "fortitude and wisdom." Trump also noted his personal familiarity with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, asserting that the ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kyiv would not have occurred if he had remained in power in 2022.
Previously, Trump vowed to rebuild relations with Russia and China if he wins the upcoming U.S. presidential election on November 5. He added that, under a "reasonable president," the U.S. would not face adversaries like China or North Korea. Trump further criticized the current U.S. administration, saying it made a mistake by allowing closer ties between Russia and China, a consequence of the perceived loss of respect from these nations under President Joe Biden's leadership.
"Russia no longer respects us. China no longer respects us... I had a great relationship with Xi Jinping, but it was ruined by COVID-19," Trump said.
Trump also argued that the Ukraine conflict emerged as a result of Washington’s diminished standing in the eyes of Moscow and Beijing. He emphasized that if he had won the 2020 election, the confrontation would not have taken place.
There have been suggestions that Trump's victory in the November election could play a role in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
