Turkey plans to complete helicopter engine tests by 2023
The Turkish TUSAS Engine Indsutries Inc. (TEI) plans to complete the trials of the domestically produced TEI-TS1400 helicopter engine in 2023, which will allow it to receive an airworthiness certificate from the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Turkey.
The Anadolu Agency quotes the CEO of the TEI company, Mahmut Faruk Aksit, as saying that the TEI-TS1400 engine, which is planned to equip the Turkish-made Gokbey helicopter, is entirely designed and developed by Turkish engineers and designers.
According to him, TEI-TS1400 has already passed a series of tests.
“Once we receive the certificate, tests will directly be carried out with the Gokbey helicopter. The goal has been set to launch helicopter flights using domestic engines by the end of next year,” he said.
Akshit also said that the transmission system of the Gokbey helicopter was also developed by the Turkish company Alp Aviation under international standards.
“We have rapidly completed the work on the first Turkish helicopter engine with a domestic transmission. The TEI-TS1400 engine produces 23,000 rounds per minute, and its power generates 1,400 horsepower,” he said.
