Turkic states need unified language framework, linguistic society chief says

29 June 2026 18:14

Turkic countries should establish a unified linguistic framework to strengthen cooperation and preserve their shared heritage, Osman Mert, President of the Turkic Linguistic Society, said on Monday (June 29).

Speaking at a conference during Turkic World Week in Baku marking the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress, Mert said modern technological advances had created opportunities to implement many of the ideas first proposed at the landmark gathering a century ago, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

"The path to a strong Turkic world lies through a common language, a shared culture and a common understanding of Turkology," Mert said. "In this regard, it is crucial for the future of the Turkic world to move forward by building on the past."

He said artificial intelligence technologies developed in Türkiye could play a significant role in preserving and studying the shared cultural and linguistic heritage of Turkic nations.

According to Mert, AI systems developed by his team are currently able to read Ottoman Turkish texts with an accuracy rate of 95%, a figure he said they aim to increase to 98% in the near future.
