Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan honors strong ties, reflects on earthquake solidarity PHOTO
Türkiye will forever be grateful for the steadfast support Azerbaijan extended in the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquakes that struck the country in February 2023, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün stated in remarks to the press.
The ambassador made the statement after presenting his credentials to President Ilham Aliyev, emphasizing the enduring bond between the two nations, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
In his address, Ambassador Akgün reflected on his visit to the grave of Heydar Aliyev, the founder of modern Azerbaijan, at the Alley of Honour, and took a moment to pay tribute to the fallen heroes at the Alley of Martyrs. He described these visits as symbolic of the deep and lasting friendship that defines the relationship between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
Ambassador Akgün further emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries, noting that his primary mission is to bring to fruition the shared vision of the leaders of both nations. “Türkiye and Azerbaijan are brotherly countries, and we are committed to further enhancing our ties,” he affirmed.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of Birol Akgün, incoming Ambassador of Türkiye to Azerbaijan on February 13.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed Birol Akgün as Türkiye’s new ambassador to Azerbaijan on January 11.
Prior to this appointment, Akgün served as the chairman of the Turkish Educational Foundation Maarif Vakfı.
Cahit Bağçı, who served as Türkiye's ambassador to Azerbaijan since 2021, completed his diplomatic mission on December 14, 2024.
He was recently honoured with a letter of thanks for his significant contributions to strengthening bilateral ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
