Turkish Cabinet convenes under “Türkiye without terror” agenda

28 July 2025 13:29

The Turkish Cabinet convenes today under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with a comprehensive agenda titled “Türkiye without terror,” as the government seeks to address a range of critical domestic and regional issues. This marks the Cabinet’s first meeting since July 17.

Key topics under discussion include nationwide forest fires, ongoing counterterrorism efforts, economic developments, and the evolving security situation in neighboring Syria, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.

A central focus of the meeting will be recent progress in the government's “Türkiye without terror” initiative. In light of the PKK terrorist organization’s recent decision to lay down arms, Cabinet members are expected to evaluate the implementation of this disarmament process on the ground. Reports from the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) will guide the discussion, particularly in assessing operational progress and the stability of the ceasefire.

The Cabinet will also examine developments surrounding the formation of a commission under the Turkish Grand National Assembly to oversee the transition process and ensure sustained peace and reintegration measures. The political and legislative frameworks to support this transition are anticipated to be discussed in detail.

In response to increasing forest fire activity across the country, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı is scheduled to brief the Cabinet on current response strategies and new preventive measures. The report is expected to include data on affected regions, firefighting capabilities, and ongoing coordination between state and local agencies. The Cabinet will deliberate on strengthening national preparedness as Türkiye continues to face extreme summer temperatures and arid conditions.

Türkiye’s foreign policy priorities, particularly developments in Syria, will also be reviewed. The Cabinet is expected to assess Ankara’s position on Damascus’ reported request for Turkish military support amid heightened tensions in the region. Turkish officials will evaluate the potential political and security implications of such a move, especially in coordination with regional and international stakeholders.

In addition, the meeting will address the third round of Russian-Ukrainian peace negotiations, recently hosted in Istanbul. Turkish officials are expected to discuss outcomes from the talks and explore further opportunities for Ankara to act as a mediator in the ongoing conflict.
