Turkish defence minister emphasizes historic opportunity for peace between Azerbaijan, Armenia

09 November 2024 09:32

Turkish National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler underscored the historic opportunity for lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Speaking at an event in Ankara to mark Azerbaijan's Victory Day on November 8, Güler expressed hope that Armenia would recognize this opportunity and take the necessary steps to contribute to a lasting peace, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

"The Caucasus now needs not war, but friendship and cooperation," Güler said, stressing that the region’s future lies in peace, not conflict. He highlighted that Türkiye’s primary expectation is the "comprehensive normalization" of relations, which would foster stability and enhance the well-being of the entire region.

Güler further reflected on the significance of the 44-day Patriotic War, noting that the Azerbaijani army's heroism was fueled by the strength of the Turkic spirit. He also paid tribute to those who gave their lives in the conflict, wishing repose to the souls of martyrs and good health to the war veterans.

Building on the theme of regional peace and cooperation, Minister Güler also spoke about the integral role of Türkiye-Azerbaijan integration in maintaining peace and stability in the broader region. "Integration between Türkiye and Azerbaijan is a strong factor for preserving peace and stability," Güler emphasized, reaffirming the deep-rooted bonds between the two countries.

Recalling the well-known saying, "two states, one nation," Güler highlighted the shared history of joys and sorrows between the two brotherly nations, which have consistently supported each other in difficult times. The defence minister emphasized that Türkiye and Azerbaijan enjoy cooperation and solidarity across all spheres, particularly in defence and security.
