Turkish envoy urges for regional peace, rejects imposed solutions in Armenia-Azerbaijani talks Kılıç ready to fly to Yerevan next week for talks

01 March 2024 16:02

Attempts to impose a solution to peace talks on Armenia and Azerbaijan have proved counterproductive and futile, which has been observed for 30 years.

Türkiye’s special representative for normalization of relations with Armenia Serdar Kılıç said this during a panel on "Peace, Development, and Ties in the South Caucasus" at the III Diplomatic Forum in Antalya, Report says.

Kılıç believes that normalization and establishment of lasting peace and security are important not only for the South Caucasus, but also for all countries in the Euro-Atlantic region.

"I know that this issue will not be solved overnight, but if there is a desire, if there is a political will to come to a solution and establish peace and security in the region, we can be creative enough to find this solution," he said.

According to the special envoy, it is necessary to put aside certain differences and focus on those issues that can bring us closer together.

"I believe that after the events of 2020 and 2023, there is now a window of opportunity because there are strategic changes in the region and we should take advantage of that," he emphasized.

In a similar vein, speaking in Antalya, Serdar Kılıç proposed to his Armenian counterpart in talks to hold a meeting in Yerevan next week.

Türkiye’s special representative for normalization of relations with Armenia Serdar Kılıç proposed to Armenian Parliament Vice Speaker Ruben Rubinyan to meet in Yerevan next week.

Kılıç proposed a panel on "Peace, Development, and Ties in the South Caucasus" at the III Diplomatic Forum in Antalya, Report quoted Armenian media as saying.

"You and I will discuss this later and decide when and where we will meet. Let's make it a historic event," Rubinyan replied to him.

According to him, Armenia and Türkiye are in the process of normalizing relations.

"Armenia is ready for full normalization of relations with Türkiye and opening of borders even now, today and tomorrow," he said.
