Turkish general condemns drone attack on Nakhchivan
Army General Metin Tokel, Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Türkiye, expressed concern over the recent drone attack on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and emphasised the importance of mutual visits to strengthen military cooperation with Azerbaijan.
Speaking during a meeting with Jeyhun Jalilov, the authorised representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Nakhchivan, Tokel praised the steady development of the Azerbaijani army, describing it as a source of satisfaction for “brotherly Türkiye," Caliber.Azreports per local media.
Jalilov noted that following the attack on Nakhchivan International Airport, flights on the Nakhchivan-Baku route were temporarily suspended. He highlighted that special flights from Baku to the Turkish city of Iğdır between March 5 and 9, arranged to transport passengers, reflected the close allied relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
The meeting also covered broader areas of Azerbaijani-Turkish strategic cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.
The drone attacks, launched from Iranian territory on March 5, struck the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport and a school in the village of Shakarabad. Four civilians were injured in the airport attack. In response, Azerbaijan summoned the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to its Foreign Ministry and stated that it reserves the right to retaliate.
