Turkish official: Trade with Armenia shows Azerbaijan’s confidence
Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, said that the transit of wheat from Kazakhstan and Russia to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory, along with the launch of trade contacts between Baku and Yerevan, reflects Azerbaijan’s confidence in its own capabilities.
Speaking to journalists, Oktay noted, according to local media, that Azerbaijan has effectively begun the phased implementation of understandings with Armenia even before the planned peace agreement has been formally signed and before any legal obligations have come into force.
“This is a very important indicator and demonstrates Azerbaijan's confidence in itself,” he said.
Oktay also emphasised that the normalisation process between Ankara and Yerevan is directly linked to progress in the Azerbaijani-Armenian settlement. He added that diplomatic efforts on both tracks are being conducted in parallel.
“We express our hope that these processes will develop rapidly and that the regional agenda will be shaped not on the basis of conflicts, but on the foundation of peace, prosperity, and progress. In the future, we intend to focus our attention primarily on shaping the agenda for the future,” Oktay stated.
