Turkish police seize record 2.3 million pills in İzmir drug bust
Authorities in Türkiye have seized over 2.3 million illegal pills in what officials describe as the largest single haul of its kind in the city.
One suspect has been taken into custody following a coordinated operation targeting drug distribution networks in İzmir’s Karabağlar district, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
According to the İzmir Provincial Police Department’s Narcotics Division, officers conducted simultaneous raids at two addresses after receiving intelligence that a significant quantity of drugs was being stored for street-level distribution.
During the operation, police confiscated 2,309,774 pills along with machinery and raw materials used in drug production. Authorities said the drugs were intended for sale by “torbacı,” a term used in Türkiye to describe street-level dealers.
Officials noted that the seizure represents a record for a single operation in İzmir, highlighting ongoing efforts to disrupt local drug trafficking networks.
