Turkish top official advocates for opening Zangezur Corridor
Binali Yıldırım, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), has emphasized the significance of opening the Zangezur corridor, stating that it holds substantial importance for global trade, particularly amidst challenges in the Red Sea attributed to the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to journalists, Yıldırım underscored the global importance of the Middle Corridor, emphasizing its relevance in alleviating trade disruptions.
"Currently, due to the problems in the Red Sea caused by the situation in the Gaza Strip, world trade is suffering. In this regard, the Middle Corridor is of global importance," he affirmed, as reported by APA.
Highlighting the strategic value of the corridor for Turkic states, Yıldırım expressed his vision for the 21st century to be characterized by the advancement of the Turkic community. "Let the 21st century be the century of the Turks. The Zangezur corridor should also be opened," he asserted.
Yıldırım noted that with the resolution of the Karabakh issue, Armenia now has the opportunity to open borders with Azerbaijan and Türkiye, facilitating the establishment of the Zangezur corridor. He stressed the necessity of making constitutional amendments in Armenia to enable this transition.
"Our lands and Agridag are depicted on the state emblem of Armenia. This should be eliminated," Yıldırım added, advocating for changes in the Armenian Constitution to align with the opening of the Zangezur corridor and the normalization of relations with neighbouring countries.
