Türkiye completes Korkut SAM deliveries for low-altitude air defense VIDEO

02 January 2025 18:27

In response to the growing demand for low-altitude anti-aircraft systems, the Turkish Armed Forces has successfully integrated the Korkut Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system, a project launched by the Defense Industry Directorate’s executive committee.

The development of Korkut began based on decisions made between 2006 and 2009, with a focus on enhancing Türkiye’s air defense capabilities.

As reported by Caliber.Az, the news was shared by SavunmaSanayi on its social media platform, X.

A pivotal agreement was signed on May 19, 2016, between Türkiye’s Ministry of Defense Industry (SSB) and ASELSAN, the country's leading defense contractor, to commence the serial production of the Korkut SAM system. The agreement led to the procurement of 14 batteries, which include 42 weapon system vehicles (SSA) and 14 combat system control vehicles (CCA), designed to offer comprehensive low-altitude air defense.

Throughout the development of Korkut, ASELSAN played a key role in the creation of various components, including advanced radars, electro-optical systems, and other vital technologies. A standout feature of the Korkut SAM system is the integration of 35mm ATOM smart ammunition, which significantly enhances the system's effectiveness, especially for the combat system control vehicles (CCAs).

With the bulk of Korkut deliveries now completed, Türkiye is poised to strengthen its air defense capabilities, ensuring more robust protection against low-altitude threats in the region.
