03 May 2026 16:50

The Days of Azerbaijan are currently being held in Izmir, Türkiye, marking the 40th anniversary of the sister city partnership between Baku and Izmir.

As part of the program, a concert titled “Songs of Brotherhood” took place in Izmir, bringing together world-renowned mugham master, People’s Artist Alim Gasimov, and Honored Artist Fargana Gasimova, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The event was jointly organized by the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Istanbul and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.

In the official segment of the ceremony, Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Istanbul Narmina Mustafayeva and Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay emphasized the strong historical and cultural ties binding the two nations.

They noted that the sister city agreement between Izmir and Baku goes beyond a formal document, representing a deep reflection of shared history, cultural affinity, and enduring friendship.

Both sides also highlighted that this spirit of solidarity continues to be actively upheld at the highest level today.

Before the concert, Consul General Narmina Mustafayeva and Mayor Cemil Tugay visited an exhibition featuring archival photographs from both Izmir and Baku.

The agreement establishing sister city relations between Baku and Izmir was signed on April 29, 1986. Following the signing, a series of commemorative cultural events were organized in both cities throughout 1986 and 1987.
