Türkiye’s Trabzon, Azerbaijan’s Shusha to sign twin city agreement, mayor says
The Turkish city of Trabzon and the Azerbaijani city of Shusha are set to become twin cities, Ahmet Metin Genç, Trabzon’s Mayor, has stated.
Speaking at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan, he noted that a formal protocol will be signed to establish the partnership between the two cities, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Genç highlighted the close link between housing policy and the climate crisis, arguing that the two issues cannot be addressed separately.
Using Trabzon as an example, he pointed to the impact of residential development on energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Genç stressed the need for low-carbon, disaster-resilient and socially equitable urban policies in building sustainable cities.
