Türkiye stands ready for post-US reality in Syria, Erdogan says
Türkiye will continue to act in Syria taking into account the interests of its national security, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Erdogan said he is in contact with Russia for this purpose, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
“We will continue the fight against terrorism. Türkiye is prepared for both the new situation in Syria that America's withdrawal from Syria will create and the current reality. Our national security comes first and above everything else. We are trying to reshape the situation in Syria for the benefit of the entire region by holding necessary talks with Russia on this issue,” Erdogan told journalists on his way back from the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Brazil.
He added that “Türkiye has zero tolerance for groups that pose a threat to national security beyond its borders.”
“We have conveyed to all our interlocutors how resolute we are on this issue. We clearly explain this approach and our objectives. Northern Syria was occupied by the terrorist organisation PKK/YPG with American support,” Erdogan said.
