Türkiye to test AKYA heavyweight torpedo

Türkiye's Project 209/1400 S353 Preveze submarine will launch a 533-mm AKYA heavy torpedo in the Mediterranean Sea on December 26 against a previously decommissioned ship.

Developed by the Roketsan defence company, the AKYA torpedo has a range of more than 50 kilometres, SavunmaSanayiST.com reported on its page in social network X, according to Caliber.Az.

With the AKYA, Türkiye's dependence on the U.S. (MK48) and Germany (DM2A4) for heavy torpedoes will end.
