Turkmen leader expected to attend WUF13 in Baku
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the national leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, is expected to take part in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum, which will be held in Baku from May 17 to 22, 2026.
The announcement was made by Gurbammamet Elyasov, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, in an interview with Report.
He stated that Berdimuhamedov’s participation is anticipated and would underscore Turkmenistan’s commitment to active engagement in international dialogue on sustainable urban development.
Elyasov noted that WUF13 is expected to become a significant milestone in advancing the global agenda for sustainable urban development, as well as in strengthening international cooperation in the field of modern urban planning.
He further explained that Turkmenistan places priority on housing construction and modernisation, alongside efforts to create comfortable living conditions for its population. According to Elyasov, a central focus of the country’s urban planning policy is the development of a favourable, modern, and safe urban environment.
The ambassador added that the country’s capital, Ashgabat, and the city of Arkadag serve as prominent examples of this strategy, reflecting dynamic development and a comprehensive approach to urban infrastructure planning.
WUF13 is expected to bring together global leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss key challenges and opportunities related to sustainable urbanisation.
