Turkmenistan will assume the rotating chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) from Tajikistan on January 1, 2026, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon announced on October 10.
Speaking at a CIS leaders’ summit in Dushanbe, Rahmon said the decision was made during a closed session of the Council of Heads of State, Caliber.Az reports, citing the official website of the President of Tajikistan.
“It was decided at the meeting of the Council of Heads of State in a restricted format that from January next year, the chairmanship of the Commonwealth will pass to Turkmenistan,” Rahmon said, according to his official website.
