TURKSOY chief hails Nakhchivan as sacred place in Turkic history and culture
The Role of Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is very important for the Turkic World, said Sultan Raev, the Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) on May 13.
He emphasised that Nakhchivan plays a significant role in the unity of the Turkic world, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
"Today I am participating in the presentation of books by the world-renowned Hungarian writer and statesman Sándor Lezsák at Nakhchivan State University. The role of Nakhchivan is very important for the Turkic world. Nakhchivan holds great significance for the unity of the Turkic world. It is a sacred place in our history and culture. I would like to note that Heydar Aliyev — a great figure of Azerbaijan — was born on Nakhchivan soil. He is the architect of our Turkic world. Heydar Aliyev was a man who made great contributions to the Turkic world. I am very proud to be on the land of Heydar Aliyev today," he said.
Nakhchivan, an autonomous republic of Azerbaijan, holds a unique and strategic position in the Turkic world. It is geographically separated from the rest of Azerbaijan and borders Türkiye, Iran, and Armenia. This location has made Nakhchivan a bridge between Turkic states, particularly Azerbaijan and Türkiye, strengthening regional connectivity and cooperation.
In recent years, there has been renewed attention on enhancing transport links between Nakhchivan and the rest of Azerbaijan via the proposed Zangezur Corridor, which would not only connect Turkic states physically but also deepen political and economic cooperation.
