TURKSOY secretary general: Armenia's attitude to historical, cultural heritage - inhumane

21 January 2023 17:05

Secretary General of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) Sultan Raev has said that the occupation of a neighbouring country’s lands and the destruction of cultural heritage are inhumane.

“The damage caused by Armenia to the nature, geography, historical and cultural monuments of Karabakh and East Zangazur is the defeat of the occupying country,” Raev told the Turkish bureau of Report news agency.

The secretary-general emphasised the barbaric attitude of the Armenians towards the cultural heritage of other peoples.

“For 30 years they kept Karabakh under occupation, and when they left, they destroyed everything and turned it into ruins. This is a terrible act in the modern world. They were destroying everything in the occupied territories because they knew that these lands do not belong to them. I think the Armenians knew that one day they would have to return the lands to their original owners - the Azerbaijanis,” Raev noted.

Raev, who visited Shusha four times, notes that he was fascinated by the beauty of the nature of the city.

“I saw the statues of Bulbul, Uzeyir Hajibeyov and Natavan in Shusha. These statues were damaged by the Armenians. It is hard to describe this action. Glory to the Almighty, justice has triumphed. The attempts of the Armenians to misappropriate someone else's resources are futile, they lost,” he added.
