UFC president reveals why McGregor withdrew from Holloway bout
UFC President Dana White has commented on Conor McGregor’s defeat to Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329.
"Five years off in this sport is rough," White said of McGregor at the post-fight press conference. "I was expecting a one-round war, and who knew what Conor was capable of as far as cardio or whatever else was after a five-year layoff and, well, there you go," he noted.
UFC president added that they believe the former two-division champion may have torn his ACL.
The bout ended in the opening round. McGregor slipped in the opening seconds and appeared to injure his knee.
The Irish fighter was unable to stand properly afterward and went down to the canvas twice. The referee stopped the contest at the 1:09 mark of the first round, awarding Holloway a technical knockout victory.
