UK’s ambassador: Upcoming COP29 in Azerbaijan - positive signal for peace in region
UK’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Fergus Auld has said that the UK is ready to assist Azerbaijan in the successful holding of COP29.
Auld made these remarks at the celebration of the official birthday of King Charles III in Baku, Report informs.
He noted that one of the priorities of the King of Great Britain is the fight against climate change and the protection of nature.
The diplomat reminded that Azerbaijan will host COP29 in five months.
“The next six months will be very interesting. The agreement to hold COP29 in Baku six months ago was a positive signal in the fight against climate change and achieving peace in the region. I hope that both Azerbaijan and Armenia can move forward towards achieving sustainable peace before COP29,” Auld added.
Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year.
Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan.
Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues. In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit.
The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
