UK thwarts terror plan aimed at King Charles’ soldiers

The UK’s police have confirmed that a terrorist attack targeting soldiers protecting King Charles was thwarted.

Troops based at Victoria Barracks—located just a short distance from Windsor Castle—were ordered not to leave the premises in uniform after a man was arrested in connection with the suspected plot, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

The precautionary lockdown remained in place for two days while authorities assessed the threat. The barracks is home to the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, a regiment responsible for ceremonial duties and security for the Royal Family.

A source close to the investigation said: “The suspect is feared to have been plotting an attack. "Police informed bosses at the barracks and measures were taken immediately despite him already being in custody. “It was a huge security scare. But it was in the interests of everyone’s safety.” The 20-year-old suspect was initially arrested in Slough, Berkshire, last week by Thames Valley Police on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and committing arson at the nearby Salt Hill Activity Centre. 

He was subsequently re-arrested while in custody under suspicion of preparing terrorist acts. Counter Terrorism Policing South East is now leading the investigation. Officials believe the suspect was acting alone, and no further arrests have been made. In response to the incident, police have increased patrols in the area to reassure the public.
