Ukraine and Russia agree on tranquility in Azovstal territory
The authorities of Ukraine and Russia agreed to establish a ceasefire regime from May 5 through 7 in the territory of the Azovstal metallurgical factory in Ukraine. Defenders of the Mariupol city are expected to prepare citizens and territory for the evacuation within this period.
“Our forces need this time to take women and children from under the rubble and cellars and ensure their evacuation. Russians are planting mines on all routes to Azovstal, so, we need more time for demining for the buses to reach the evacuation points,” said Ukraine’s Vice-Premier for Reintegration Issues, Irina Vereshchuk, RBC-Ukraine reports.
According to her, evacuation of civilians is top priority now. The Ukrainian side gave the list of wounded servicemen; however, their evacuation is yet to be agreed.
“The evacuation convoy will also try to take people from Mariupol itself, from the “Port City” trade center, and along the route toward Zaporozhye,” Vereshchuk added.
She noted that evacuation is possible only if a stable ceasefire is observed, expressing her hopes for the adherence to agreements.
