Ukraine hails Azerbaijan’s continued support amid Russian conflict
Ukraine has expressed deep appreciation for Azerbaijan’s steadfast support for its sovereignty and territorial integrity, highlighting the close ties between the two nations.
Speaking at a diplomatic reception in Baku marking Ukraine’s 34th Independence Day and Defender of Ukraine Day, Ukrainian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Yuriy Husyev emphasised the historical friendship and long-standing cooperation between the Ukrainian and Azerbaijani peoples, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“In the context of the ongoing war with Russia, Azerbaijan’s support is especially significant, not only politically but also economically and in humanitarian terms,” Husyev said.
He highlighted programmes in Azerbaijan aimed at rehabilitating Ukrainian children affected by the Russian invasion. Since 2022, 402 children have visited Baku, Gabala, and other regions for recovery programmes.
Earlier this year, Ukrainian children, including those of fallen soldiers and prisoners of war, participated in a joint concert with Azerbaijani performers.
Husyev also noted Azerbaijan’s contributions to rebuilding Ukraine’s infrastructure and healthcare facilities, as well as assistance in energy security and the supply of medicines and essential goods.
“This is a true demonstration of solidarity and brotherhood between our peoples. We sincerely thank the government and people of Azerbaijan for their support,” the ambassador added.
Over the past year, Ukraine and Azerbaijan have strengthened their strategic partnership across political, economic, diplomatic, cultural, and humanitarian sectors. Husyev pointed to regular high-level contacts between the two countries’ leaders, as well as active cooperation at ministerial and parliamentary levels.
The ambassador also underscored progress in energy cooperation, citing agreements such as the energy security contract between Ukraine’s Naftogaz and Azerbaijan’s SOCAR.
Concluding his remarks, Husyev expressed hope for the continued development of bilateral relations.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the people and government of Azerbaijan, as well as to all our international partners and allies, for their solidarity and unwavering support,” he said.
