Ukraine says amnesty clause removed from draft peace plan
Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, says Kyiv has successfully pushed negotiators to remove a proposed “full amnesty” clause from the emerging peace framework discussed in Geneva, calling it a key step toward ensuring Russia can still be held accountable for war crimes.
In an interview with DW, Stefanishyna said Ukrainian negotiators made clear that sweeping amnesty was unacceptable.
“This point has caused a lot of speculation, and it is important that it is not here,” she said, adding that substantial discussions also took place during parallel talks in Abu Dhabi.
The developments come as US President Donald Trump announced he will send envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow and Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll to Kyiv to accelerate negotiations.
