Ukrainian envoy praises Azerbaijan’s role in restoring war-torn Irpin

18 May 2026 19:24

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba has praised Azerbaijan’s assistance in restoring infrastructure in the Ukrainian city of Irpin.

He made the remarks during a press conference in Baku on the sidelines of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Kuleba said that cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan has developed effectively in the area of community rehabilitation.

“We have a very fruitful cooperation with Azerbaijan. Also here with us is a representative of Irpin – Angela Makeeva, Secretary of the Irpin City Council. Azerbaijan is helping us restore some facilities in Irpin, and it is very symbolic for us to be here and discuss these issues together with government representatives,” he said.

The Ukrainian deputy prime minister also spoke about efforts to build underground schools in Ukraine, noting that more than 20 such facilities are already operational.

“Today, there are already more than 20 underground schools in Ukraine, and children have been studying there since September 1, 2025. This is our new reality,” he stated.

Kuleba also expressed regret over the impact of the ongoing war, emphasizing that Ukraine continues to face severe challenges as a result of Russia’s invasion and intends to highlight these issues during WUF13 discussions.
