UN circulates Azerbaijani president’s address on Western Azerbaijan as official document

The United Nations Secretariat has officially circulated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s address to the participants of the international conference “Return to Western Azerbaijan as an Essential Condition for the Supremacy of Human Rights”, along with the conference’s final declaration, as official documents of both the UN Security Council and the General Assembly.

The announcement was made by the Western Azerbaijan Community, Caliber.Az reports.

The high-level conference took place on May 21, 2025 in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, and centered on the right of return for Azerbaijanis displaced from their historical homeland.

According to the Community’s statement, the UN’s circulation of President Aliyev’s message reflects growing global attention and backing for Azerbaijan’s longstanding position on the issue.

“The fact that the appeal of Ilham Aliyev, who fundamentally and consistently keeps the issue of Western Azerbaijan on the international agenda, was circulated as an official UN document speaks about the strengthening of international support for the issue,” the statement read.

The Western Azerbaijan Community reaffirmed its determination to continue seeking broader international recognition and support for the peaceful return of displaced persons to their ancestral territories.

“We demand from the Armenian government to create conditions for the peaceful and dignified return of Western Azerbaijanis, in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international conventions to which this country is bound,” the Community stated.
