UN circulates Western Azerbaijan Community’s Return Concept as official document

The UN Secretariat has circulated the Western Azerbaijan Community’s Return Concept as an official document of the UN Security Council, UN General Assembly, as well as UN Economic and Social Council.

The statement came from Community Spokesperson Ulviyya Zulfugar, according to Azertac.

She noted that the Return Concept, covering the issues of ensuring the rights of Azerbaijanis expelled from the territory of present-day Armenia to a peaceful, safe and dignified return, restoration and protection of their individual and collective rights, including property rights, cultural and historical heritage, is distributed in all official languages.

United Nations (English, French, Russian, Chinese, Arabic and Spanish), in accordance with the agenda items of the said agencies on the prevention of armed conflict, peacebuilding, the protection of the rights of refugees, the eradication of racial discrimination, the promotion of human rights, the prevention of genocide, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

Zulfugar added that circulating the concept as an official UN document further reduces the Armenian government's ability to distort the issue of West Azerbaijan, encourages Armenia to start negotiations with the community and sets in motion an international process on the issue.

For the record, this document is a second Western Azerbaijan Community paperwork distributed as a UN document. Earlier in January, a community appeal to the international community was circulated.
