UN Climate High-Level Champion: Azerbaijan commits full support for successful COP30 in Brazil

14 March 2025 20:58

UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 Azerbaijan Nigar Arpadarai has said that Azerbaijan pledged comprehensive support for the successful hosting of COP30 in Brazil.

Arpadarai made these remarks during a panel discussion at the 12th Global Baku Forum, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

She emphasised that Azerbaijan would do everything possible to ensure that the parties involved in the climate summit not only commit to their climate goals but also fulfill them.

"We have a specific action plan that we will promote," she stated, highlighting the importance of concrete steps in addressing global climate challenges.

In her remarks, Arpadarai outlined her mandate, which includes actively engaging with various stakeholders such as the private sector, civil society, municipalities, and academic circles.

"It is essential that the process is inclusive. This year, I have significant work ahead to bring attention to all key participants and ensure their involvement," she noted.

COP30 will be the 30th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), scheduled to be held in Brazil in 2025. The conference aims to advance global climate action by reviewing and enhancing international efforts to mitigate climate change and adapt to its effects. Brazil, as the host country, is expected to play a pivotal role in facilitating discussions and driving initiatives aimed at achieving the goals set in the Paris Agreement. COP30 will bring together world leaders, policymakers, scientists, and activists to discuss pressing issues such as carbon reduction, climate finance, and sustainable development. The conference will provide a crucial platform for reinforcing commitments and fostering collaboration to address the growing challenges of climate change.
