UN environment program hails Azerbaijan's leadership in climate action
In a significant endorsement of Azerbaijan's commitment to environmental stewardship, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) has announced its support for Azerbaijan hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
"Azerbaijan can be considered a leading country in climate issues," said Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Inger Andersen, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
Andersen highlighted Azerbaijan's voluntary decision to host COP29 as a testament to its generosity, kindness, and leadership in global climate efforts. She expressed anticipation for the cultural richness Azerbaijan will showcase during the event.
Andersen further commended Azerbaijan's dedication to green energy development, noting a substantial investment of $2 billion despite its status as an oil-producing nation.
