UN hosts event dedicated to Azerbaijan's Independence Day
An event dedicated to Azerbaijan's Independence Day was held at the UN headquarters in New York.
The ceremony was attended by President of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly Dennis Francis, high-ranking officials of various structures of the organisation, ambassadors and diplomats of member states, Report informs.
First, the National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played.
Addressing the event, Azerbaijan's Permanent Representative to the UN Yashar Aliyev informed the guests about the history of our country's independence and the path of its development. The diplomat noted that it was in 2024 that this bank holidays, Independence Day, was celebrated throughout our country for the first time after full restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.
In his address, Aliyev talked of Azerbaijan's effective cooperation with the UN for many years, noted that our country has made its contribution to the international organisation's activities related to climate and other important directions of multilateral cooperation.
Azerbaijan is also actively working with developing small island states, and at the initiative of the head of the country it is planned to create a special fund to support these states.
