UN official exposes alarming rise in islamophobia, antisemitism worldwide at Baku forum
UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, highlighted the growing global rise in antisemitism and Islamophobia during the opening of the XII Global Baku Forum.
“I have presented the UN’s action plan to combat antisemitism, and I am also working on measures to counter Islamophobia, with a corresponding action plan to follow,” he stated, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
He further noted that the world order is facing severe crises, with conflicts intensifying across various regions.
Moratinos also expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for hosting the forum.
The XII Global Baku Forum, themed “Rethinking World Order: Turning Challenges into Opportunities,” has commenced at the Gulustan Palace in Baku under the patronage of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the Nizami Ganjavi International Centre.
President Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of the event, which has gathered over 400 distinguished participants, including current and former heads of state and government, Nobel laureates, and representatives of international organisations.
The forum serves as a major platform for global dialogue and cooperation, focusing on past lessons, present challenges, and future opportunities. Over its 11-year history, it has welcomed more than 100 heads of state and 4,000 senior leaders in efforts to address pressing global issues.
The Global Baku Forum, which has become an established platform for addressing pressing global issues, is being held for the 12th time this year.
