UN official urges immediate action amid looming global crisis
The world is on the brink of a global crisis, and it is a critical moment for the United Nations to act, UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan said at the opening session on “Responding to Global Turbulence” during the 13th Global Baku Forum.
“I truly believe this is a pivotal moment for the UN. We are on the verge of a global crisis that will hit the most vulnerable countries the hardest. They will suffer not only from energy problems but also from rising fertiliser and food prices. Disruptions in fertiliser supply could trigger a severe food crisis in the future,” Grynspan said, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
She added that over eight decades, the UN and its member states have made significant progress toward sustainable peace.
“Billions of people have been lifted out of poverty, emergency humanitarian aid has been delivered, fragile ceasefire regimes have been protected, and mutually beneficial cooperation frameworks have been created,” she added.
