UN Security Council calls on Azerbaijan, Armenia to avoid further escalation of situation
An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council has been held in New York in connection with the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.
UN Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and Americas Miroslav Jenca, Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Yashar Aliyev, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN Mher Margaryan, as well as representatives of several countries, including China, India, Ireland, Mexico, Ghana, Brazil, UAE, Albania, UK, US, Russia, France, etc. delivered speeches at the meeting, Report informs.
Representatives of the countries expressed concern about the growing tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and information about casualties on both sides. They also noted the need to intensify efforts to help de-escalate the confrontation on the border and called on Yerevan and Baku to show the political will to reduce tension.
According to the message, the international community should make every effort to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
