Azerbaijani Health Minister Teymur Musayev has met with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Representative in Azerbaijan Saja Farooq Abdullah.
During the meeting the sides discussed the expansion of cooperation between UNICEF and the Azerbaijani Health Ministry, as well as with other partners working in the Azerbaijani healthcare sector to strengthen the work on immunising children in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Health Ministry told Caliber.Az.
The possibility of developing a joint action plan and exploring specific spheres that could contribute to the implementation of immunisation programmes was also considered.
While welcoming the guests, Musayev emphasised the versatility of relations between Azerbaijan and UNICEF.
“Over the past period, great work has been carried out in mutual cooperation. Several projects have been successfully implemented in various spheres, including healthcare, education, maternal and child health,” he said.
The minister said that the Health Ministry is taking important steps to improve the quality of services in maternal and child health. The vaccines were brought to Azerbaijan through UNICEF.
Musayev expressed confidence that Azerbaijan will continue effectively cooperating with UNICEF.
In turn, Saja Farooq Abdullah reminded that UNICEF launched activity in Azerbaijan in 1993.
“UNICEF is committed to working closely with the Azerbaijani government in building a better future for children and creating opportunities for the full development of their potential,” she said.
Highly appreciating the achieved level of partnership between Azerbaijan and UNICEF, Saja Farooq Abdullah noted that the cooperation programme for 2021-2025 serves as the basis for closer interaction.
The UNICEF representative in Azerbaijan positively assessed the Azerbaijani government’s prompt response to the local spread of measles, which began in late 2023 and is currently ongoing, as well as the Health Ministry’s enlightenment in this sphere.
In conclusion, the sides discussed the cooperation issues in priority spheres.
