Urgent action required to address climate change challenges UN High-Level Champion says
Nigar Arpadarai, the UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 Azerbaijan, emphasized the urgent need for action to combat climate change.
Addressing the Baku Climate Action Week, ahead of the upcoming COP29, she highlighted that trillions of US dollars are necessary to facilitate a successful green transition, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"Climate change is no longer a threat of the future; it is a challenge we face today, and we need to act decisively," Arpadarai stated.
She outlined a vision centered on two key pillars: increasing ambition and enhancing the effectiveness of actions taken to address climate issues.
With COP29 just weeks away, Arpadarai called for robust participation from the global climate community, noting that the conference will serve as a crucial test of the Paris Agreement's effectiveness.
"We need financial resources to achieve our goals," she added, underlining that the benefits of the green transition should extend beyond large corporations to include small and medium-sized enterprises as well.
