US embassy in Baku commemorates 9/11 terrorist attack victims

The US embassy in Azerbaijan has revered the memory of the victims of the September 11 terrorist attack in 2001.

The embassy staff observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the September 11 tragedy, the embassy told Report on September 11.

The terrorist attack was the biggest in world history in terms of the number of victims, and this date itself is one of the most tragic days in the history of the US and the world as a whole.

As a result of the attacks, 2,977 people were killed, and 24 more were missing. Most of the dead were civilians.

Four groups of terrorists (19 people) hijacked four scheduled passenger aircraft at 08:46 on September 11.

The terrorists sent two planes to the towers of the World Trade Centre in the southern part of Manhattan in New York.

American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the centre's north tower, while United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the south tower. As a result, both towers collapsed, causing severe damage around.

The third plane (American Airlines Flight 77), hijacked by five terrorists, was directed at the Pentagon building near Washington.

The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.
