US grateful for Azerbaijan's contribution to Europe's energy security - diplomat

The US is grateful for Azerbaijan's contribution to energy security in Europe.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Geoffrey Pyatt, who is visiting Azerbaijan, told journalists, Report informs.

"We see great prospects for the development of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan," he added.

The United States positively assesses the activities of Azerbaijan in the development of "green" energy in the country, Pyatt, who is visiting Azerbaijan, told journalists, according to Report.

"The US is implementing large-scale projects in the field of green hydrogen. During the visit, I heard about Azerbaijan's opportunities in wind and other types of green energy," he said.

According to Pyatt, American companies are leaders in this sphere, and their experience and technology can be used in Azerbaijan as well.

"We are very positive about Azerbaijan's work in this direction," the assistant US Secretary of State added.

According to him, the energy systems of the world will change greatly in the next 50 years and this is a very important moment for Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan as the supplier of energy whose location isn't really far from the EU attract the special attention of many politicians and creators of public opinion in Europe.

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority projects for the EU and provides transportation of 10 billion cubic metres of Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region through Georgia and Türkiye to Europe by 2020 will be the first real diversification of gas coming in from the East.

In the initial stage, the gas extracted within the second phase of development of the Azerbaijani gas-condensate field "Shah Deniz" is considered the main source for the corridor. At a later stage, other sources can be attracted to the project.

Gas within the second stage of the Shah Deniz field will be exported to Türkiye and to the European markets by the expansion of the South Caucasian gas pipeline and construction of Trans-Anatolian (TANAP) and Trans-Adriatic (TAP) pipelines. The project involves two EU member states, Italy and Greece, candidate countries, Türkiye and Albania, and Azerbaijan, the EU strategic partner in energy.
