US, Japan discuss development of hypersonic weapons interception systems

Japanese Defence Minister Yasukazu Hamada has said that his country and the US will cooperate on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and are also discussing the possible joint development of hypersonic weapons interception systems.

He made the announcement at a press conference after a meeting with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin, TASS reports.

"Regarding defence weapons and technology cooperation, we have agreed to advance the discussion and strengthen cooperation on drones and [discuss] possibilities for joint development of future [interceptor] systems to counter hypersonic technologies," the Japanese minister said.
