US: Three injured in Westfield Valley Fair mall shooting in West San Jose
Three people have been taken to the hospital after a shooting at the Valley Fair Mall in West San Jose, California, on November 28, according to local police.
Authorities initially reported that two individuals had been injured, but later confirmed a third victim had been found suffering from gunshot wounds, Caliber.Az reports, citing US media.
The victims have been identified as two adults and a teenager.
Police said the incident appears to have been isolated and stressed that it was not an active-shooter situation. Nevertheless, officers began evacuating and sweeping the shopping centre to ensure there was no continuing threat to public safety.
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan stated on the evening of November 28, saying the news was “not what I wanted to share with you this holiday weekend”, adding that his thoughts were with the victims.
He said police were working to identify and apprehend the suspect and reiterated that there was no ongoing risk to the wider community. He also urged residents to avoid the area.
Police have asked the public to stay clear of the mall as the investigation continues.
